Frequently Asked Questions
If you can't find an answer to your problem or question, please contact us.
Q: What is MyGrowList?
MyGrowList is a community-driven resource for people interested in growing or raising their own food. The creators of the site believe that in general we'd be healthier, happier, and more environmentally sustainable if we all grew more of our own food, so we created this site to encourage that activity.
Q: How do I use the MyGrowList Map?
The MyGrowList map shows balloons marking the approximate location of each one of our members. Clicking on a balloon yields specific details about that member, such as that member's username, a list of what he or she is growing, and the number of points he or she has accumulated. If you would like to know what grows well in your microclimate, you can drill down into your neighborhood to discover what other members are growing in your area. The more points that a user has accumulated the more active that user is in the community. Once you have registered on the site, you can click on the username to view a member's profile, allowing you to easily find all of the content that the member has created.
Q: How do I find information on specific topics?
You can use the Search box to search for specific content on the site. In addition, you can browse the various kinds of content available, such as Articles, Blogs, Recipes, Photos and Forums. Much of the content on the site is "tagged" with what we call "GrowList Terms" - these are tags that help categorize the content. For example, an article about growing tomatoes would be tagged with "tomatoes" so that site visitors looking for tomato-related content can easily find it. Those tags are clickable, leading to a complete page dedicated solely to content tagged with that term.
Q: How can I contribute to the community?
You have many opportunities to contribute to the site. Once you have registered you can use the "Create Content" link in the upper left corner of the page to add to the site. You can create an Article, Blog entry, Forum post, Recipe, or Photo. Additionally, you can rate much of the content on the site as well as comment on that content. Every time you add to the site you will earn points. These points accumulate and signify your activity level in the community.
Q: What are "points?"
Points are our way of denoting the most active members in the community. Any time a member creates content, he or she receives points according to the following list:
Creating a GrowList (on signup) - 10 points
Creating an Article - 5 points
Posting a Blog entry - 5 points
Adding a Photo - 5 points
Posting a Recipe - 5 points
Posting a Forum topic - 5 points
Posting a Comment - 3 points
Rating a piece of content - 1 point
Currently, points only provide a certain level of credibility for each member, but we hope to offer some more tangible rewards to users that earn the most points by truly engaging, encouraging and inspiring the community.
Q: How can I spread the word?
Please help us encourage more people to grow their own food. Tweet about MyGrowList, post MyGrowList links on your Facebook page, tell your friends about MyGrowList, and let other online communities that might be interested know about the site. We will look to continually provide more ways for our members to get the word out.
